So I bought a prebuilt with these specs

image.png.af23d910cb0ffe67ff4e67dcf00a773d.png

it's not listed but it also came with a

TPLINK 11n PCIe WiFi Adapter

The wifi card is directly under the gpu with very little space

I'm having problems where I think my wifi card is interfering with the GPU

My setup currently has 2 monitors and the problems occur when;

  • 2 display ports into gpu drops the wifi connection
  • 1 display port 1 hdmi works with the monitors on 60hz (but lags the wifi)
  • When both monitors are put to 144hz with displayports or hdmi it is dropping the internet connection
  • 1 monitor with 144hz works fine

Any suggestions how to fix this? Is it just a stronger/better wifi card needed?

update:

I changed the wifi adpater into the PCIe port just below the one it was in and now this happens -

  • one monitor on 144hz and one on 60hz works, but slow wifi
  • two monitors on 144hz still drops the wifi

Sorry for a really messy thread, just trying to word it the best i can

Suggestions I've had so far is buy a better power supply, and another person has told me to buy a better wifi adapter

thanks any help/advice appreciated.

It sounds like the GPU is somehow causing interference with the Wi-Fi signal.

I've personally never encountered this problem before, but then again, it *IS* possible.

We before we start throwing money + parts at it, have you checked to see if there are any more recent drivers for the TP-Link Wi-Fi adapter card?

Do you MUST use the Wi-Fi, or can you get a wired Ethernet connection?

If the GPU is indeed causing signal interference with the Wi-Fi card, then the only thing you can do is buy a replacement (different make / model) Wi-Fi card.

One that has shielding to protect the Wi-Fi card from interference.

Another option is to get the Wi-Fi adapter outside of the system...by using something like a USB Wi-Fi dongle.

However, not all USB Wi-Fi dongles are made equal.

Thanks for the reply

Yes when I phoned the company I bought it from they said it is likely the GPU causing interference with the wifi the way he worded it was he said  ''Check if the wifi adapter is directly underneath the GPU, if it is and you feel comfortable moving it to the one below do that''

When I did that it half fixed the problem and now 2 display port works with 60hz on each monitor, but it's still dropping the wifi when increasing the refresh rate to 144

I have checked if there was any updates for the Wi-Fi driver and it says it's up to date

My options from what I see is either a USB wifi dongle or a new wifi adapter

This is what I've been looking at

https://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/computing-accessories/networking/wifi-range-extenders/tp-link-archer-tx3000e-pcie-wireless-card-10203750-pdt.html?

Do you think this would do the trick? Or should i go for a dongle

Thanks

That Wi-Fi card has a heatsink over the Wi-Fi chip / module, but I don't know if there is any shielding under it.

You can try, but *might* encounter the same issue.

Is there any shielding things i could do as a test to see if that would be the problem?

Is this the type of thing i will need

https://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/computing-accessories/networking/network-routers-and-switches/wireless-adapters/tp-link-archer-t6e-wireless-pci-card-10140801-pdt.html

It says ''Enjoy the smoothness and flexibility of dual-band WiFi – the Archer T6E delivers 867 Mbps on the 5 GHz band or 400 Mbps on the 2.4 GHz band. This dual-band system helps avoid wireless signal interference.''
