I was looking for parts since im trying to build a pc for my girlfrend. Thought about seeing how much my gpu, an rx 590, costs but there were none. I then saw there were some 580s on stock an checked the price. I was shocked, a card that a year ago was selling for around $180 is now selling for three times that. Looks like she wont get a pc for her birthday :,(

I have that exact same card, only with 4Gb of VRAM.
Just think that I bought it used two years ago for 90€... while now I see RX580s flying off of ebay for 200+ € !

It's just better to stop and wait. When you see GT1030s priced at GTX1660s MSRP, there's something VERY WRONG going on. 😖

it's a combination of cryptocoin mining being big right now due to coin "value" being high, economic/logistics/social effects of covid, new generation of GPUs being more worth upgrading to than last gen. The coin mining thing is what really pushed it over the edge, combined with the timing of new GPUs dropping and being in short supply. The new high-end GPUs got super expensive right away last autumn and it's slowly been pulling the rest of the market up, till we get this. 😞

fwiw, something like a GTX 970 or older Radeons would still give a good gaming experience and they're overpriced yeah but less ridiculously so. Even a GTX 670 or R9 280X is better than nothing and can still game at 1080P low
