Hi im currently working on my gaming rig and i want to play starcraft and so i was hoping someone could teach me some basics. i currently watch huskystarcraft on youtube but he doesnt do much strategy anymore and so i want to be prepared a little for some starcraft. I'm not needing help with controls or anything. just strategy's and like what unit is good against what unit. i think im probably gonna play protoss.so i have a few basic questions. i need someone who is pretty patient i know very little but i do think i need help.

What is being supply blocked? Is it when you arent mining enough minerals and have to many building?

what does a forge fast expand do?

what is micro? i think i know but im not sure.

what is macro? is it when you try and save up your minerals?

that is just a few sample questions i will have alot more. thanks.

Micro is the ability to control your units individually.

Macro is the ability to build units and buildings with a hotkey (Macro key)

When you build a forge for Protoss the building gives you the ability to build "Photon Cannons" granting you early protection from a rush.

Supply block is when you do not have the required "Capacity" or "Food" to build units.

Yes, Archons are very powerful against Mutalisks. Mutalisks also loves stay in big groups so a High Templar using "Psi Storm" is also very useful against them.

Against Zerg - Start with 3 WarpGates as soon as possible, this allows you to pump out units quickly to defend any quick Zerg attack (Zerg Rush). Three WarpGates also allows you to have some flexibility and allows you pretty much defend any early game to mid game Zerg attacks. You can then build a forge to build a Photon Cannon at the entrance to your base or you can build another WarpGate and quickly build units and slow down the Zerg. A late game Zerg is OverPowered so you want to slow them down as much as possible at the start. You then can build second tier buildings.

*Tips Against Zerg - The chances are that the Zerg will have a bunch of Roaches, Hydralisks and Zerglings are extremely high. To counter Zerglings use Zealots. To counter Hydralisks use a mixture of Sentrys (use "Guardian Shield") and Zealots to take the damage. To counter Roaches use a mixture of Immortals and Observers (To detect Roaches underground)

(There are plenty of different strategy against Zergs, the only way to find out which is best is to test them out yourself)

P.S I will post a Strategy to counter the other two Races.

  • 2 weeks later...

If you Don't like reading a lot of stuff and you wan't some tips on mechcanics and hotkey setups, watch the Day[9]daily #252.

Sean "Day[9]" Plott is one of bigger names in the SC2 community and had a "Newbie Tuesday" for a long time. The vid I mentioned explains  a lot of fundamentals.

Furthermore just remember to keep builing probes and pylons and you should be fine in the early leagues if you keep your money low
