hello i am getting this graphics card for my hp pavillion p6 specs:https://support.hp.com/gb-en/document/c03382053

the card:https://www.newegg.com/global/uk-en/msi-geforce-gt-1030-gt-1030-2gh-lp-oc/p/N82E16814137140?Item=N82E16814137140

my only question is it says

  • PCI Express 3.0 x16 (uses x4)

what does uses x4 mean i know this will work with my shitty pc cause i heard pcie express 3.0 is backwards compatible to my pcie express 2.0 slot

Thanks

( i know i worded this in the most annoying way possible sorry)

The X defined is basically how many lanes of that connection it's going to use or need to run properly. So it's saying it runs on a 16x slot but only needs 4x of those available lanes. In the case where you have PCI express slots that aren't full 16x, you could use one of these cards on a 4x or 8x slot. In terms of backwards compatibility you should also be fine as it isn't really demanding that much bandwidth if it can run on 4x.

Yes, it will.

As long as it fits in a PCIe slot, it will work.
