Hello, since my warrenty expired andy laptop was getting quite high tempratures i thought i would replace the thermal paste. So i opened up my laptop removed the heatsinks and cleaned the old thermal paste off i saw the different states of my CPU and my GPU and since my CPU was getting higher tempratures as my GPU i thought this wasn’t looking good but i dont have enough experience to tell. Soo my question is how bad is the state of my CPU?

The rectangle is my CPU and the square the GPU, i noticed my GPU being much cleaner.

Sorry bad english, thanks for any help in advance. ❤️

That sounds great, however i can’t seem to get it off and i don’t think  applying more pressure on it is a good idea. Sooo what should i do? Try cleaning it or can i just apply the cooling paste?

Should i try to scrape it off with a plastic spudger or is that a big nono?

If it were me i would get some good alcohol and a plastic razor blade and see if i couldnt pull that residue up. It might interfere with the TIM and you might still get high temps after putting it back together.

If i were REALLY desperate i would get a high grit sand paper like 3000 grit and VERY LIGHTLY polish it a bit with a flat block not my finger. This would be a last ditch, desperate option. you want to be so light you attack the residue and if it touches the surface it does so in a uniform way. You dont want to remove much if any of the actual metal because i dont think that is a heat spreader on there, that is the actual chip.
