Need help with processor compatibility

So I am just making my new build and I do not have a new desktop cpu as of now, I have an Intel i5 -8250U( which is a notebook cpu), and I dont know if that will work in my z390. If it doesn't work then what cpu can I get that is compatible and is relatively cheap.

Is the 8250U in your laptop?
If so, no, you can't remove it. You'll need an 8th gen or 9th gen chip to put in your Z390 board.

What do you want to do with the PC?

Not sure what you are looking to do, but a mobile chip is not compatible with a desktop motherboard.

My main use for the PC is for gaming, and sometimes for school. I am just starting with not much experience building so what cpu I am looking for?

What resolution and refresh rate, e.g. 1080p 60 FPS, 1440p 144 FPS, etc.?

My budget is around 6-$700 CAD, I have reused my gtx770, I have a DeepCool CL500 case, I also have my z390 board.

I am probably going to buy my other things used but I do not know what to get. Could you help me out?
