I have been facing this peculiar problem where the system doesn't post after shutting down. Pressing the button makes the fans and power LED turn on for a split second and then nothing. After that the RGB in the RAM glows but system doesn't post.

I've tried resetting the CMOS and sometimes it comes back on after that. Sometimes after disconnecting the cables I hold down the Power button for 15 seconds as mentioned in some guide I read. And after that it starts working again.

I can't isolate where the problem could be. What part should I look into repairing?

The build-

Intel i7-10600k

MSI Z490-A Pro

Gigabyte 2060 Super OC

Cooler Master Masterwatt 650

Thermaltake ToughRAM

Samsung 870 EVO

Hi Poetoftheblack,

So I see that this MSI mobo has 4 debug LEDs by the ram slots. I would suggest having your case open and pay attention to what, if any, of those 4 leds glow and what color. MSI has printed what each component the LEDs are connected to (BOOT, VGA, RAM, etc). These LEDs will be a huge help in diagnosing the problem. Please reply when you know which (or none) of the LEDs come on during attempted booting sequences.

PC=   CPU: Ryzen 5 5600x   I   GPU: EVGA 2080Ti FTW3 Ultra   I   COOLING: Self-contained A/C unit cooled custom loop (980mm) I  RAM: 32gb 3800MHz DDR4   I   SSD: Samsung 850 evo 250Gb x2   I   HDD: WD blue 1TB  |  NVME: WD Black 500gb  I   PSU: Excalvion 1000w

It started right now, so I shut it down and it didn't start again but I checked the Debug LEDs and the CPU LED is the one that flashed. So I'm going to try and re-seat the CPU and see how that goes.

Hopefully it isn't a PIN problem and the Motherboard doesn't need to be sent for RMA. *fingers crossed*
