System:

RTX2080

I7 8700K

16GB RAM

2x1TB SSD

Motherboard: Asrock Z390 phantom gaming 4-ib

Problem: Low GPU usage and low FPS(35-50) in games and while idling. The usage is between 20-35%

I have changed some power settings, which didn’t solve the problem tho.
i also ran a Memory diagnostics, to check for problems with my ram. No error was found.

How can I resolve this issue? Any help is welcome.

thank you!

I don’t know the exact one but it’s a 600w ps?

I really need to know the exact model.. Are you able to check that on the PSU itself, physically with your eyes?

Oh okay great.. how old is the PSU? Have you serviced it well? (dusting)

No I’ve never touched it or even seen it. I’ve dusted the rest of my computer tho.  It should be around 1 1/2 years old

Yeah uhh.. the PSU could be the problem here in your case. Do you happen to know anyone that has a PSU to confirm this, or nah?

Yeah I’ve got two brothers. But I’m not gonna get their PSU to try it on mine. The problem happened before I brought the pc to Europe, but still hasn’t gone away. I have also reseted and deleted everything on the pc.

Oh okay... Well, do you know how to take out the PSU to check on its condition? The PSU could be overheating due to dust and then slowing down its power delivery to reduce the heat, similiar to thermal-throttling in CPU's and GPU's.

I’ve looked on how I could reach the PSU, but didn’t really find anything. Only the back side maybe.

That actually doesn't look too bad.. you could try unplugging the PCI-E power cable and plugging it back in firmly into place. Maybe it loosened up when it was delivered to you.

Alright I will try this, do I have to be careful about anything? I don’t wanna destroy my pc completely.

Make sure you shut down your computer completely (wait at least 20 seconds after the shutdown) and turn the PSU switch that is on the back from 1 to 0. Then you can safely start replugging the cable. After you've done that you will do the complete opposite of what i just told you. Turn the PSU switch from 0 to 1 and then just turn on the computer like you routinely would. Screenshot_29.png.4a305627e81afd8b8fc2b9513760fe0b.png
