You need to switch your SATA controller setting in the BIOS, instead of AHCI it should be Compatibility or Legacy mode. Should be located under Advanced.

I would be extremely surprised if that system couldn't boot from an AHCI drive. That wouldn't make any sense.

Well, the error he had up there indicates it's more than likely a BIOS issue, what other BIOS issue could it be?
