Hey everyone. I currently have an iPhone 11 Pro Max (on T-Mobile) and I’m looking to switch back to android for the first time in, god idk, 7 years?  I don’t really do any gaming, or heavy multitasking but I do want a very good camera (I take a LOT of pics for work, and of my dogs lol) and a reasonably snappy overall experience.

Few reasons why I am thinking about switching-

1- Google Hangouts/Voice integration- I have a Google voice number that I use for work and when Hangouts used to be able to take calls, everything was great. Now that it doesn’t, the Google voice app really sucks. Sometimes my phone won’t ring, and also (arguably the biggest issue) is you can’t send multiple pictures at once when texting from it.

2- iOS notification bugs. Pretty cut and dry, no real explanation needed lol

3- Ford has announced a partnership with Google for in-vehicle tech starting in 2023, and I own Fords and work there soooo yea.

What phone would you all suggest I look into?  Thanks!!

What's your budget?

Not sure your budget but I can get you started somewhere

  • The Pixel 5 supports 5G and is cheaper, but at the cost of a lower-end CPU. Of course, it'll still be very fast and last you a very long time, and since you don't really game I could see it being a good fit. Its cameras and the camera software are hard to beat especially at its price point.
  • The S20 FE is the same price as the Pixel 5 and with similar cameras. Similar internals and construction, but with the OneUI look and feel, If you prefer it and prefer Samsung, definitely a good choice, but I wouldn't recommend them as they suck with updates and longevity
  • The Asus Zenfone 7 Pro is a bit heftier, and packs some cool party tricks. Has pretty great cameras and support for GCam to improve your picture quality, and has a crystal clear display for viewing content with no notch or hole punch. The OnePlus 8T also falls in with this phone in my opinion, while also being an excellent phone, however with OnePlus' recent antics I can't recommend them for the same reason I can't recommend Samsung

I hope this kind of gives you a good idea of where to go and what to look for. MKBHD has a bunch of good reviews as well ShortCircuit.

Pixel 5, every other factory Android experience (in terms of software and the manufacturer skin) is inferior and their cameras are second to none.

So, I’m also looking to add a line to my plan and some of the “add a line” discounts that T-Mobile offers when getting a phone through them are making it really hard for me to look at buying directly from Google, or someone else.

I think my top 3 choices right now are- S21, Pixel 4A 5G, or OnePlus 8T+ 5G.

really depends on how much u wanna spend at that point. All three have pretty good cameras, the 4A is gonna be cheaper but reliable, the 8T is basically just a Samsung clone but fairly reliable, the S21 is mainstream and popular but can be a tad bloated
