Overclock a msi gtx 1060 3gt oc

Hi forum i wonder is it worth to overclock a Msi gtx 1060 3gt oc, if i have a asus b150m pro gaming motherboard, Corsair CV450 80+ bronze power supply, i5 6500 cpu, 2x8gb G.Skill TridentZ DDR4-3000 CL15-16-16-35 DC SR and a hgst 750gb 5400rpm hard drive. Ps what should i upgrade and to what

Yeah sure, but first you need to check your current temperatures under load. Have you checked those yet?

Definitely get a SSD to install your OS on. I see that you only have a pretty slow hard drive (5400rpm) and that doesn't do you any good in general. I personally always recommend Crucial SSD's purely because of reliability. Patriot is good too. Ideal capacity would be at least 128gb.

no i never check those, but which ssd will u recommend me to upgrade as my os

You should, download MSI Afterburner or HW monitor and launch your most intensive game and then watch the temperatures (Just use MSI Afterburner if you purely want to see the GPU temp). Ideally, it should be around 60-73c, but you're fine to reach upto 85c. If its above 85c then i would not overclock.

my most intense game i have on my system is Overwatch or team fortress 2

its not about the brand. its about a lot of things:

nand types

dram

speeds

 

for example

 

There are bad crucial ssds and bad patriot ssd, and good ones too. every brand has good and bad products

Have you enabled XMP in the bios?

 

Yes you can oc. But first run Unigine superposition (e xtreme settings) and see current temps.

my cpu only allow to have 2133mhz ram speed

Oh okay.. Then you're fine to just overclock. Have you downloaded MSI Afterburner? There's an auto oc scan that will apply a safe automatic overclock suitable for your GPU.

no? I have ran 3000mhz on i5 6400 before. you have 6500 which is better

 

go in the bios and enable XMP

 

that 2133mhz is quaranteed support. but most of those cpus can do 3000mhz pretty easily. worst thing to happen is your system wont boot and you will have to reset cmos in ordser it to boot. which will take 10 seconds to do.

then it's bc of my motherboard i cant do it higher then 2133mhz

I have never seen an Intel CPU run at higher speeds than 2666mhz but maybe thats just me.

that is just you. Intel can run 3000mhz on pretty much every 6th gen or above cpus.

its 6th gen if it starts with 6

6400,6500,6600 and 6600k are all 6th gen on I5
