Connection issues on modded Minecraft server

i've been trying to set up a modded Minecraft server for myself and friends (as one does) but i can't seem to work out how to configure the networking properly. any suggestions?

Make sure the firewall on the server is not blocking port 25565 and that 25565 is properly forwarded in your router settings.

Can you send screenshots of the config? Also, what kind of connection problems are your friends having? Does it just time out? They are using your public IP and not the server's local/private IP, right?

IP left blank intentionally for this image, but i fill it with the IP for my PC when not showing screenshots. Timing out yes, and i am not certain of how to tell the difference but i believe so

Internal/local/private IP will very likely start with 192.168. That is not what you should send to friends who want to connect to your server. You want them to connect to whatever your public IPV4 address is (can check here https://whatismyipaddress.com/ or on a similar website).

ah. that seems like it'd be the issue then. would i want to set the public ip as the ip in the server config as well then?

In your port forwarding config (the thing you screenshotted), the internal IP box should have the server's local IP (the one starting with 192.168). Anyone who wants to connect to the server should use your public IP (the IPV4 one from https://whatismyipaddress.com/).

Many thanks, it's working perfectly now! (at least to the extent that i expected it to)
