Hello. New(b) guy here.

Simple question, can you upgrade motherboard bios without having a cpu installed?

Motherboard in question is Asus Prime x570-pro and it does support bios flashback and some motherboards with similar bios flashing can be upgraded without cpu.

Also would be in interesting video to make about this topic.

Any motherboard that supports stuff like Q-flash or something similar with a flash USB port.

They can be installed without needed CPU, although some people can have issues with it or having trouble about if it works or not (so you don't brick your system) just leave the USB longer in, if needed. ofc the last thing they need power and a screen 😛

Some motherboards can have some issues, also depending on what BIOS and CPU to what kind of motherboard. Some combinations are horrible. While yours is a more expensive MB so it should hopefully do fine, just see that you have the correct BIOS and files correctly as asked for the motherboard (correct file name can be a thing).

My mobo doesn't have dedicated usb port for bios updates, the manual even states you can just plug it in usb port and have only the bios file on the stick to upgrade, like incase you have brocked it before.

But thanks, i will check it and i have a place to upgrade it if this method won't work.

I am gonna get 5900X, or 5800X depending of availability.

There could be a small chance the BIOS has been updated, from when it was made?

But if it doesn't work or post, when covid goes down or less in your area, then maybe you could go to a local electronic store or repair store for a quick update of BIOS. Not the most pratical, but an option.
