Does Chipset matter for performance?

Go to solution Solved by Electronics Wizardy,

Chipset won't affect performance(other than overclocking). The big thing the chipset affects is io. Id keep the b450 board since you have it already.

I was planning to build a pc and when I was planning it, I bought a b450 chipset motherboard, and dude to the pandemic I couldn’t finish my build and as I saw the b550 chipset is out and I was wondering if the different chipsets would yield to different results.

For example, not being able to get all the performance of a 5th gen Ryzen, and I was wondering if I would be better for performance to sell my b450 chipset and save up a bit more to get a b550 chipset.

I don’t even know if that even works like that, I don’t really know how chipsets work on a motherboard I only know that certain chipsets are compatible with certain CPU and some specifications like 4th gen pci.

Sorry for bad grammar English is not my main language.
