Can you overclock RAM in the BIOS? And if so - can you overclock every RAM or does it have to be unlocked like the Intel CPUs?

But now, fellow gamers, that was it for me. Please keep in mind, that this is just my personal opionion and I am no expert. Your system shall be cooled forever, see you next time.

Yes you can overclock ram in the bios. Xmp for example. And yes if you have any amd system you can overclock the ram.

Yes.

It depends on the BIOS, like if it allows overclocking.

Any Ryzen system allows overclocking the RAM.

XMP is the easiest way to overclock. Its basically a factory tuned profile.

Non XMP RAM's overclocking mileage is unpredictable unless we know the specs of it 🙂

So AMD and XMP always work. I have an Intel system with the following specs:

i7-8700 (non k)

GTX 1060 6GB

Motherboard: Medion Z370H4-EM (from prebuilt)

RAM: image.png.3979e835f28b27d47bda98bafbf12e7e.pngimage.png.12e3cb58bd63cd161dd7064406e8fded.png

Do you need more specs? If so - please let me know. Unfortenately I do not know thich brand my RAM is from. If you need the brand name, I will open the PC and see what it says on it.

EDIT: It says Manuf. Samsung, although I think this is just the Chip and not hte RAM Manuf. if you know what I mean by that.

Your ram manufacturer isn't important. You can turn on xmp for that ram. It has a 3200mhz profile. Just go into the bios and turn on xmp then run it and make sure its stable.

Just like that? Seems easy enough. Is there any risk if I change it to XMP? I never changed anything in the BIOS so I am a little nervous about stuff like that... Also: Intel says, that the i7-8700 only supports up to 2666MHz I think. Will this be a problem if I turn on XMP?

This is everything the BIOS say in the RAM section... Is it possible that my Motherboard does not support XMP?

No its not a problem. It supports up to 2666mhz by default. But you can overclock above that using xmp. The risk is that it doesn't run stable. Not every xmp profile works with every motherboard and cpu. Sometimes the xmp profile can be a bit much but theres ways to deal with that if it happens.

Thank you for your help so far! I have one more question: Where exactly in the BIOS do I turn on XMP? At the CPU config? Or RAM config? I could not find it when searching for the XMP settings...

This is my fault for not checking but your motherboard doesn't support xmp and there are no ram settings for a manual overclock either. It took me a while to find the manual for your board. Its a bit of a weird one and its no longer supported by medion.

Yes sadly it ia no longer supported and it is form a prebuilt as well... Thank you very very much for your time and effort!
