CPU Upgrade Choice

Hi, I am currently running an i7 8700 non k on (ofc) a 1151 socket, 32 GB 3200MHz Ram and a rtx 3070. As the CPU is getting a little old i am thinking about upgrading soon. But I am not sure wether to go Intel or Ryzen, since a new Ryzen CPU would require a new mainboard, while a fitting Intel wouldnt and I do not really want to break the bank with it.

I mostly use the PC for Gaming, 3D Modelling and other creative work like Photoshop. Cooling would also not be a problem since I already have a liquid cooler (yes, for a non K).

So the Question is... what CPU would make sense?

Welcome to the forums!!!

If your Intel motherboard is a Z-series board, then you can grab yourself a 9900K as a cheap upgrade that will improve your performance somewhat. It may not be worth buying for the price/performance you'll achieve but it is an option that you can go with on a Z390 board.

Otherwise, a B450 motherboard and a Ryzen 7 processor may be well suited for another upgrade path. You can reuse your RAM over with the 32GB DDR4-3200 (CL16 timings I assume?).

cl16 timings, yes. But I think that that upgrade (i just thought of the ryzen 7 3700x) would also be way too expensive for what it is, assuming that the mainboard would cost around 80€ and the cpu around 300€... Would the Upgrade be noticable enough in the "working" part?

I have a z370 Mainboard.

Would that work with the 9900K as well?
