G Sync/Adaptive Sync brightness flickering?"!?!?!?

Just bought a 100hz monitor with Adaptive Sync , turned it on plugged it in. Adjusted the brightness and colour to my liking, enabled adaptive sync and g sync, fired up a game and IMMEDIATLY saw flashing and flickering on screen. the WHOLE screen flickers BRIGHTER then normal then BRIGHER then normal for less than a second, all the time its enabled. 

 

I cant play games like this!! already given me a headache after like, 20 minutes playing minecraft. 

 

Is there anything I can do to stop that happening? Its fine with adaptive sync turned off, but games dont run as smooth and buttery as they do with it on. Have i mucked up a setting somewhere or.....is that just what adpative sycn does for some reason?
