Evening all,

wondering if anyone may have a thought or two on a solution to my issue.

I broke my mrs laptop by accident (Screen smash etc and its 100% dead now after other issues) I've recently started to learn python with the hope of it becoming a real change in career I use my 10 year old Dell latitude e5410 awesome wee thing does all I need. She has wanted to also join me in learning but just having our first child this set things back as priorities changed for a while. We're finding our rhythm being parents and again time to hit the books hard to give ourselves and son a better life, but then ... she has no laptop to use for learning and being that most of the time she would be able to use to read and learn baby is asleep next to hear on her big blue chair a laptop is the only viable option for her.

As I use my laptop outside the house as well I cannot really just give her mine without this setting me back also.

So after all that waffle the situation is does anyone know of a good wee laptop or reliable refurb place or brand that works well on refurbished gear that would be able to do all the basics run full windows etc with shell idle adobe reader (I mean in terms of be able to run em at the same time flick around for learning reasons) budget is £200 at a push but if can get it lower the better,

We're in the UK so would be amazing if anyone knew of something along the lines of Free Geek over these parts.

Screen not really a big deal maybe 13-15 inches (It will be 3 times more then I've ever given her) as far as IO a USB or two would do it I guess.

Maybe look for a used X1 Carbon or T-series then.

Having a quick look now but just  a thought obviously everyone is gonna have different experiences but bit timid buying a second hand laptop off ebay how reliable would something like that be if goes tits up after a month or two would be a real kicker. Any experience with ebay laptop sales?

Lots of experience. Never had any problems. Just make sure you buy from a reputable seller and read the entire listing carefully. If the price seems too good to be true there is likely something wrong with it, or it could just be a scam.

tl;dr use common sense and you'll be fine :)

The expense is gonna be a new battery, chances are an old laptop is gonna have a pretty mediocre old battery and you’ll want a new one

Thankfully, with the exception of the X1 Carbon, they will all have hotswappable batteries that can be replaced in seconds and new ones can be purchased for fairly cheap.
