Hey everyone, so I had this crazy idea while I was using my computer for folding at home and making my rig a space heater. A couple days ago I made one of those metal models and it looked super cool, so I put it on top of my pc for the aesthetic.(I added the pic here) It just so happens that that part of my case also gets pretty warm because that's right near my AIO on the inside. Then an idea dawned on me, because that's an all metal component on top of my case. Hypothetically speaking because that area of the case gets pretty hot when the rig is working, would having an extra piece of metal there kinda like a passive cooler there actually help cool the computer? I mean this one would be terrible I imagine because its got thin connecting bits and stuff like that. But hypothetically if you like sanded down the case, added thermal paste, then had a custom piece there that was a bit more substantial, could you in theory make a functional cooling PC hood ornament?

In theory, yes adding a metal piece there will result in better internal case temps but not by much at all, unless you intend on adding a fan or have sufficient airflow over the top of the metal piece. This will also work better the greater the difference in temperature there is between the metal sheet and the ambient room temperature (greater temperature delta means better passive cooling).

Do this for the aesthetic purpose, but don't count on it dropping temps by any meaningful amount.
