Hey guys, it's pay day and I'm thinking about upgrading my cpu and mobo.

Right now I'm pretty satisfied with my set up, but I'd like to turn it into a dedicated hackintosh rather than switch out the drives every time.

parts are:

i5 2500k @ 4.9ghz

msi P67a-gd55

I'd like to jump up to the 3570k for $189 and the Asrock z77 extreme 6 for $159 from MicroCenter.

Would I see any performance improvement going from a 2500k to a 3570k? P67 to Z77 (beside pci 3.0)?

I have another h100i that I'll be using to cool it for overclocking.

Thanks a lot!

I don't think you would see a huge performance difference. I personally don't think it's worth it. Just wait till Haswell.

15" MBP TB

AMD 5800X | Gigabyte Aorus Master | EVGA 2060 KO Ultra | Define 7 || Blade Server: Intel 3570k | GD65 | Corsair C70 | 13TB

Hold off on the upgrade, If your overclocking that 2500k then there will be absolutely no difference between it and a 3570k OC'd

Ivy bridge has better performance per clock but can't overclock as high as Sandy can so it pretty much evens itself out in the end.

Alright, thanks a lot guys, I'll hang around til Haswell. I have plenty enough for an i7 just no use for the extra threads :/

I think I just might be bored and want something to do. Working 3rd shift, days off kind of ruin any kind of daytime fun so I spend hours and hours sitting in my cave of a house while my girlfriend is sleeping hah

Always plenty else you can do to your pc to keep you occupied. Case modding, cable sleeving and what not, Does nothing really to increase the performance of your rig but sure does look good and individualizes your rig

Wait till haswell but if you cant wait unless you are gonna OC the 3570k you wont see TO much improvement.

yeah, once i can get this cpu and motherboard replaced, I have an old mac pro g5 case from ebay that i want to set my hackintosh up into all fancy. Tons of modding to be done, have an old mobo tray that i've got to cut into and a bunch of squares to cut from the back for the psu and coolers.

I always spend time tinkering with my PC when I'm not using it. Keeps my occupied when I have nothing to do or am not going out with a couple of mates. You should hold out till Haswell :)
