Hi there,

I am planning to build a pc for a friend of mine and he likes RGB so i thought the Cooler Master MasterAir MA410M RGB was pretty dope. But here is the deal. The height of this thing seems to be 165.1mm and the case has support for 165mm. Now i wonder, is this 165mm the real and utter limit? Or will a 165.1mm cpu cooler juuuust fit? This would help me out a lot and i wonder what you guys think of it or maybe you have some experience.

By the way. He wants a under 1000 Euro mid range build and part prices in Europe are high so this was my list for him:

Case: Fractal Design Focus G Mini 49,95 euro

Motherboard: MSI B450 Thomahawk Max 102,04 euro (good motherboard to later perhaps upgrade cpu.)

Corsair DDR4 Vengeance RGB Pro 2x8 GB 3200 92,90 euro (this can be tuned down or right for the cpu and if he decides to upgrade later it will have higher clock speeds ready for him)

NVME M.2 SSD: Gigabyte 1TB 112euro (thats literally how its called) (he wanted to have fast storage over lots of storage to begin with, when he wants to invest in more games he will invest in an Sata ssd or hdd).

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 1600AF 129 euro

CPU cooler: Cooler Master MasterAir MA410M RGB 54,04 euro

GPU: MSI GTX 1660 TI SUPER GAMING X 296,96 euro

PSU: Corsair CX550F RGB PSU 80,55 euro

Fans: 3x Cooler Master MasterFan MF120 Halo 44,85 euro

Controller: Cooler Master RGB LED controller

The measurements for max cooler heights are usually precise. I took a cursory look at the case and it looks like the window on the side sticks out a little, so I would imagine that 165mm is with that factored in. 165.1mm might barely fit, but I wouldn't count on it. If you don't want to take the chance, I'm partial to Noctua's air coolers. The Noctua NH-U12S SE-AM4 is 158mm tall, so it should fit comfortably (50 USD on amazon, not sure what it comes to in EUR)

Only other thing I'd keep in mind for future upgrades on the CPU is to ensure the BIOS on the motherboard gets updated (probably easier to do when the 1600AF is in there), because 5000 series chips won't just slot in and play unless the BIOS is up to date with a 5000 series supported version.

As of 2019 the NH-U12S is AM4 compatible. I believe there is also a Chromax Black version. But it's a bit pricy.

The bequiet Pure Rock 2 is significantly less expensive and good to about 125W TDP.

For this budget I'd suggest using the cooler that comes with the cpu. The savings is needed elsewhere.
