Catalyst 14.3 Beta Linux Driver Fixes OpenGL Performance Issues

Still being reported as open issues for the Catalyst 14.3 Beta v1.0 driver is stuttering and poor performance when playing an OpenGL game for several minutes on Ubuntu, system hang when hot-plugging a stereo display, corruption and a system hang when running Unigine Sanctuary with certain settings, and enabling the overlay causes screen corruption, among other issues.

AMD currently sucks with Linux drivers. Even the 750 Ti beats the R9 290 at most games.

Not that bad.... But something like a 680 can just about beat an R9 290 in Linux. Which shows how poorly optimized AMD's linux drivers are. It's also a large fault of the gaming press for not taking AMD to task on this.

People were wondering why Valve went with Nvidia for their prototype steam machines. It's obvious... they had no choice. AMD's cards were crippled in Linux by bad drivers.

Nah, what I am saying is really true and here I have a benchmark result from Phoronix to back that up. It is quake 3 running at 4K using AMD vs Nvidia.

Check out the benchmark of Quake 3 at 4k here at http://openbenchmarking.org/embed.php?i=1403128-PL-UBUNTU14091&sha=6f600f8&p=2

I don't know what is happening but something is clearly a bottleneck within AMD's drivers because under Windows the result is much different.
