Hello,

I have an ASUS B450 Strix-F rev 1.01 and a shiny new 5600X and no idea what BIOS version is on there.

Been looking around for a while now trying to find out whether or not I can update the BIOS with the 5600X in there even if the CPU isn't supported however not been able to find anything.

Does anyone know if this is possible or will I need to drop in my old 1600 to do it.

Cheers.

You will have to use the 1600 to update the BIOS.

The strix B450-F does not have a BIOS to flashback feature so you are required to use an old CPU to update it.

As for the update process, check the BIOS notes on the website. You might see that some processors are dropped in support, so once you flash the correct version, the 1600 may no longer work.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

How many watts do I need?

Unless the BIOS were updated from the factory which I highly doubt they were, you will need to put the in the 1600, and update bios for 5th gen. I am pretty sure all B450 boards will support 5th Ryzen, don't quote me on this. I can say that though, my Aorus M support 5th gen with F60e update.
