I've done a post about this before, but it's old and a fresh post might help.

I have a "ROG Maxims X formula" for my motherboard that keeps posting an Error Code 96. this code generally has to do with a PCI error, which could be anything from my GPU to an M.2; now this code won't let me computer post at all I can't even get into the BIOS: I've tried to boot with on-broad video and I get nothing as-well.

SOMETIMES resetting my CMOS, unplugging the 24-pin, unplugging the plug, resetting the GPU and all my ram, and finally holding the power button for a minute. I'll finally get my system to boot.

Now you are probably thinking why haven't I RMA my board, well I've tried an ASUS said they couldn't replicate the problem and send the board back.

I'm currently going back and forth with ASUS (for the third time) about getting a replacement, they told me they are "Out of Stock" of my board but if I send them my board I can get a replacement faster.

So I guess I have 2 questions here,

1) anyone has some advice on how to get Asus to RMA, my board, without giving me terrible customer service and a runaround

and

2) anyone way to fix my board without having to go threw an RMA with Asus

Yes Hi! Welcome back!

I can try to help..

Please list EVERYTHING you've tried here.

Once we have gone through a bunch of diagnostics here, you may use this thread to back up your progress and they can have a better idea of what your issue is, but they could very well be right, the issue may not be the board. So thorough diag first.

Also, pictures and screen shots help....

The first thing you should do, plug in the motherboard speaker on the FP header. When the code is steady, you should have some error beeps if there is absolutely an issue with a piece of hardware, the beeps will tell you.

In my sig AMI Beep codes is where you'll look. Post your findings here and we'll asses what's what at that time.

Good Luck!

OK, go to ebay and spend 2-3$ for a little speaker.

Looks like this.

Then we can try and diagnose the issue and hopefully come to a resolve for you.

Do you have another power supply you can try? A failing psu can cause weirdness, also try unplugging fan headers and USB connection just to see if it will post, shorted wire causing a feedback can result in these kinds of issues also.
