Mate of mine got some new ram, 2x16 sticks of 3200mhz CL16.

https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B016ORTNI2?tag=pcp0f-21&linkCode=ogi&th=1&psc=1 are what he bought, and it shows up on the QVL supported list.

He has a Ryzen 5 2600x and 2070 GPU, was recently told that Zen+ has issues with 3200mhz and above, so I got him to run it at 3000 mhz manually, and had to up the voltage to 1.35

Motherboard : MSI B450 Gaming Pro Carbon AC

Currently, the PC is running it but whenever he tries to use the A-XMP profiles, 1 and 2 the motherboard won't post and he has to reset the CMOS battery.

Profile 1 is 2933mhz CL16

Profile 2 is 3200mhz CL16

So because I was told 3200 has issues, we tried using Profile 1 but then it wouldn't post. Got him to reset CMOS, and do the settings manually - it's working but showing up as 1500mhz in Task Manager, CPU-Z and HWInfo. I know that it's dual channel so it (should) be running at 3000 but is there any downside to not running it in XMP mode?

Thanks in advance.

Edit : Added Motherboard

Zen + doesn’t benefit from 3000mhz RAM. If he can return the ram I would and then just buy a cheaper kit of 2x8 3200mhz.
