Shared folder from server to all network

My boss asked me if there is any way to see a shared folder with some file from another network.
When we are in an office on the same network as the server are on his laptop we can see his shared server folder with some files.
But when we switch on another network he can't access that anymore because we are not on the same network as a server.
So I want to ask if there is any way to see them from other networks and how to do it?
I wanted to try using Windows 10 remote desktop to share fails from servers to his laptop but then i found that is ez to hack so i give up from that option.
Then I thought to use VPN as an intermediary between the server and his laptop to have a safe way of sharing all fails from any network but i don't know is that a good option and how to do it because i never did that and i don't know how so any help is good.

For now he was using teamviewer to "physically" go to other pc that have fails he needs.
But now he asks me to find any way to see that shared folder from any network.
I just started to work here after college so i want to impress them so that is why i ask u here to help if u can.
Sorry for my bad eng i had help from google translate.
and ty all In advance for help.

VPN is the preferred and safest option. You can dial in to your network from anywhere and access your files as though you were connected directly.

How you go about setting that up depends on what OS the server is running.

Main Rig:-

Ryzen 7 3800X | Asus ROG Strix X570-F Gaming | 16GB Team Group Dark Pro 3600Mhz | Corsair MP600 1TB PCIe Gen 4 | Sapphire 5700 XT Pulse | Corsair H115i Platinum | WD Black 1TB | WD Green 4TB | EVGA SuperNOVA G3 650W | Asus TUF GT501 | Samsung C27HG70 1440p 144hz HDR FreeSync 2 | Ubuntu 20.04.2 LTS |

Server:-

Intel NUC running Server 2019 + Synology DSM218+ with 2 x 4TB Toshiba NAS Ready HDDs (RAID0)

I told him that and he told me that he want any free way to do it because we are already paying license for teamviewer and he dont want to pay any more than that because already can do that with teamviewer and we need teamviewer  to access all others pc we have on other locations.
He wanted to see if there is any ez way just to access files without paying and i dont know is any free option for that and how safe is to have some free storage box that i will after connect to openvpn because we only need a connection between the server and his laptop.
So is there any free and safe option for that? Or i should just give up.
Ty a lot for help anyway. 😀

Whats the server OS? Windows Server has a VPN Server included and on Linux you can install one of many VPN Server options.

Other methods of accessing the shared folder from the network is it set up ACLs (Access control lists) but it depends on which hardware is used between the 2 networks.

Why would a VPN be needed. Unless the other network is in a completely different office? That would make sense but since the 2 networks are literally in the same building setting up ACLs is the logical thing to do.

When we are on the field or he is at home and he need access to some files he is not on the same network as the server and he can't access that shared folder.
So that's why we need it to have some assess from others networks and i was think that VPN is best and safes solution. and i ask here because i am noob and i dont know so i wanted to see if it's a good option and if there is batter one.

Again, you will need to setup ACLs in order to connect to both networks. Then, once you have a connection between them, your boss can VPN into the main network and access the second network. Also, what is the reason for 2 separate networks?

I assumed by other network OP meant an external network, like home or at a clients office.

yea when i say other network i am thinking of when he connect to Internet via WIFI or ethernet cable to his laptop.

Sounds like you have a routing issue but the major issue is that you're using Windows 10 as a server. It has no routing options, you cannot do ACLs and it has no built in VPN Server. It limits your options drastically.

It could be.

Okay. Then, @Master Disasteris correct I though there were office 2 networks, my mistake. You will need to set up a VPN, although it can get complicated. There different VPN vendors, you can set up OpenVPN or if you want a business grade VPN for more than one person, you can get Cisco. (Cisco equipment can get expensive). Another question, why don't you guys have an actual server? Windows Server has a VPN feature that available to be installed or if your router has VPN function. Use that, but you will be limited.

A guide:

Unless their router has a VPN Server, then he will need to set up VPN server using Windows server 2019/2016.

I ask him why are we using wind 10 on are server and he told me that we are not using a server but just a regural pc with wind 10 that we are store data on because we dont have to mush stuff to save and it was cheaper way to do it. :D
Sorry for "lying" i didint know that we are using just regular pc for are data storage.
Does that information change anything and how we can do it.
i am so sorry again for misleading i didn't know too.....
So we actually need a way to see shared folder from pc to his laptop from any network that he connect for ez access.

I am going to ask some question you might not know the answers to but they need to be asked. Do you mind if ask what type of business you're working at? because it sounds like your boss doesn't want to spend money.

This not a good thing. A business needs to have some sort of file management because what happens if the windows 10 pc breaks and you don't have a backup solution? if your boss doesn't want to spend on getting a server, why not a nas? A nas is called a network attached storage it is essentially a server where you can store your files and it also can be accessed from outside the office network but it depends on the model you get.
