Trying to switch boot drives

I am currently trying to switch my boot drive from a HDD to an SSD however I want my old HDD to keep all my info incase the SSD ends up not working. If i keep both drives plugged in and boot off my SSD am i still able to access files such as games on steam from my old HDD. Or if i cant is there a way I can make it so it does without needing to wipe my HDD.
