Hello guys, recently I have started having audio desync issues again. My laptop is Lenovo Legion Y540 and when I got it, I had this issue but then I updated my Intel Rapid Storage Driver from the Intel website and everything was fixed but now it has popped up again. I tried most of the fixes mentioned in this Lenovo forum post regarding the similar issue. But, it did not work. I even thought that it might be Optimus messing with it so I first tried to disable the integrated gpu and tried to run just the NVIDIA one but it was even more worse and using it in conjunction with integrated gpu makes it run a bit better.

The main issue is that the audio starts running ahead of the video and I just cannot seem to fix it. I am attaching Latency Mon results as well. I don't really know what to do at this point and any help would be greatly appreciated,

Fixes I have tried:

  • Switching between iGPU and dGPU
  • Uninstalling and reinstalling NVME drivers
  • Disabling link state power management from the Intel RST application
  • Pinning my minimum processor state to 100
  • Cranking fans on highest
  • I thought it was throttling so I also made sure to give it ample breathing room and cleaned everything as well.
  • Editing power options in windows to disable any optimizations that may hurt performance.

The CPU that I have is i7 9750h, 16 gigs of RAM and an overclocked 1660ti. I am attaching the picture for the overclock as well. I tested out the graphics card overclock to make sure it was stable so I doubt that is causing my audio issues as even at the start when I got it, the graphics was not overclocked and I still had the issue.

I've also noticed this issue within the past week, an audio de-sync that usually occurs within the first few minutes of watching a video. It doesn't seem to matter whether I watch something on youtube, VLC, or Media Player Classic. At first things are synced up, then after a few minutes the audio doesn't match the lip movements onscreen. Not sure where the hell this came from because it was never a problem in the past. Rebooting seems to work for a few minutes. Pausing the video seems to bring things back into sync, briefly, until the audio starts lagging again. I would love to know what's causing the issue, and how to resolve it. I suspect a windows update or driver update......

Do you have the same model as mine?

No, it's a generic OEM 3rd party Intel board, i7 2600 CPU, 2060 Super, and 16 gigs of RAM. I wouldn't imagine it's a hardware issue because it's been running fine for years, previously on Windows 7, and upgraded to Windows 10 which was working fantastic up until the last week or two. I honestly only noticed it a few days ago, however I may simply not have noticed it as it's only noticeable when playing longer videos. For me at least, it's clearly a software issue, and doesn't seem to be related to hardware specific drivers, otherwise switching my sound output from the onboard DSP to the RTX HDMI output would have resolved the issue. I just get a lot of annoying clicks and pops randomly, and occasionally the audio gets out of sync. I'd love to figure out what is causing it, I'm bordering on doing a format and reinstall but I'm worried that may not solve it if it's just software and I restore all the software....

According to LatencyMon, it may perhaps be ndis.sys that has somehow suddenly started to act up, currently pursuing fixes related to that....

<edit>
So it definitely seems that it was NDIS, and more specifically, the Intel network driver somehow pooched itself. LatencyMon was previously showing latency spikes over 4000 every time the sound made clicks and pops. I uninstalled the Intel software, and uninstalled the NIC through the device manager, telling Windows to fully delete the driver, then re-installed the driver fresh. LatencyMon's report still isn't perfectly rosy, but NDIS doesn't come up any more, and no more clicks and pops, and I haven't noticed any de-syncing yet either.

Happy to know that it improved for you! I also tried reinstalling everything and it seems a bit better now.
