Hello,

I have a little problem with port forwarding, and I can't seem to get it to work. So I'm playing warframe (steam game), and in order to play properly, the game told me that I need to forward some ports. I've searched the net, and found that I need to forward the 80, 443, 3960, and 3962 ports. I found the instructions at portforward.com, and followed the instruction there, but can't get it to work.

I'm using ZTE MF90 (modem/router), with windows XP SP3. This is what I did (according to the instructions):

- First, I set up a static IP on my PC

Double-checked this with ipconfig from command module

- Then I went to my router's setting to setup the port mappings for the 4 ports. Restarted my router, and no problem connecting to the internet.

The instructions stops there, and told me that the port should be properly forwarded. Last step left is to try checking with port checker applications. So I tried online port checker applications, as well as a downloadable port checker application. All the tests failed, said that they can't ping my PC and the ports are still closed. I tried pinging my PC (with the external IP written in the application), and got normal responses.

At this point, I'm baffled, so I'm hoping someone could help me here. What did I do wrong? Why the port checker applications still can't use my (supposedly) open ports?

Sorry for all the images, but I'm not good at describing things with words alone.

Thank you in advance.

Maybe your ISP is blocking some ports on their level, try calling them and ask them about it.

Also, why are you still using XP? Move on.

Try doing like 3959-3961, sometimes routers are funky

and yeah, update man

Hi, thank you for the replies. So if I understand this correctly, the reason that the ports forwarding failed is probably because my ISP run some kind of a global firewall on their end, that affects all their clients? I hate contacting them. The CS' there always patronizing people, and it's very hard to get connected to a real networking tech there (always not present, out for lunch, busy, etc). So I thought I'll reserve contacting them as the last option, after all others fail too.

The XP is my home PC. 90% of my works (including gaming :) ) are done on my office PC, running windows 7 ultimate. Because it's weekend, so I'm at home, and I thought I'll try port forwarding in my home PC. I thought if I can get it to work here, then it's easier to do the same with my office PC.

Why they would want HTTP ports opened up, I do not know...

The port 80, right? Yeah, I found that strange as well. I just followed the instructions I found on the internet. I thought, if I could get it working smoothly with all 4 ports open, I'll try closing the port 80 (remove the port 80 port mapping), and see if it still works with 3 ports open...

Try to not select src port ( source port ), because is random.

I prefer select the static ip in the router, but this is it up to you.

You router is also blocking (ping) from out of your network by default, don't worry if you don't needed.

Tip: check if your has a kind of log, and see what happen. Tip2: Move from xp!

Hope your solved ;)

443 is also HTTP(S).

Okay, the curiosity was eating me inside, so I went to my office to try it again on my office PC, running windows 7 ultimate. I brought the router with me (it's a small modem/router, I take it wherever I go).

Setup the static IP, tried port checker, still no luck. In warframe, there's an option to change the required ports to be open. I changed to 4950 & 4951. Made the ports mapping accordingly, still no luck with the port checker.

Tried playing a few games, surprisingly it ran quite smoothly. Some minor multiplayer connection hiccups, but overall it's good.

So, in the meantime, I'd give the ports mapping problem a rest. Thank you for all the kind replies here.....
