So my friends computer is experiencing I guess what I'd call micro-freezing. It will lock up and be completely unresponsive at random times for about 5-30 seconds before resuming as normal. It isn't just happening in games, it will happen during normal everyday sessions. Here are his specs:

The cpu is an Intel Core i5-4670k, with 16gb of Ram, and a Gainward 650Ti. The issues I've ruled out thus far:

-His components should be getting plenty of power, he has a Thermaltake Toughpower 750W power supply

-His drivers are up to date along with updates for Windows, they were updated a few days ago.

-He does look after his computer, regular defrags, disk cleanups etc.

Any ideas what could be causing it? He's been having the issues for about a week now, before he did the last round of driver updates, nothing out of the ordinairy happened around that time.

Look forward to hearing a response

"Regular defrags" if he defrags an SSD, that could be his problem.

He doesn't have an SSD

As an update - We were just playing Diablo III and it froze everytime his character leveled. Not sure if it was the effect causing it or not, again because as I said, it seems to happen during internet browsing as well. But each of the five times he leveled it did the freeze thing again

Go to the Nvidia control panel -> Manage 3D Settings -> Global Tab and select Integrated Graphics. We will find out if everything works fine on Intel HD Graphics 4600.

There's no option in there. It thus far, won't let us install the drivers for the Intel chipset, and we don't actually have the option of unplugging the graphics card because it doesn't seem to send any signal through either the HDMI and DVI ports on the motherboard (Tested both cables off my system, both are fine). His motherboard also doesn't seem to be powering the front fan even though it appears to be plugged in correctly. Could a faulty motherboard be an issue here, or do we need those drivers installed before we can use those ports?

I'm gonna try and reinstall the drivers again, but it's not detecting the HD 4600 chipset, any ideas here?

Update: Tried installing the drivers which came with the disk for MY motherboard (Not his, we don't have them on hand). It's still not detecting any kind of onboard graphics
