Looking to upgrade CPU

Go to solution Solved by A51UK,

You may not getting the high speed in the server setup and I do think that very little amount of storage, I would get 2 x 1TB of SSD does not have to be M.2 and would need to think what OS you needed, e.g. Linux or Windows server

May I ask are the VM just running Java programs that you coded? and or read made programs? As I would say that the Azure App Service, there also do Windows and Linux server as well but the benefit of using App Service is that you do not have to deal with the OS just up load the code and on both of them you can easy backup the systems.

Getting B550 motherboard + Ryzen 3600, 5600X (if you can find any)

Unfortunately if you wanted to keep your current motherboard, the best you could get is a 6700K or 7700K, which are tragically overpriced.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 11 and Fedora Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

PSU tier list

How many watts do I need?

PSU misconceptions, protections explainedgroup reg is bad

The motherboard going to limit cpu you can grade too, if you need more performance then it may be best to buy a new computer or build a new one as you would have to replace the motherboard anyway.

I would look at the Ryzen 5800X, if you Java program using a lot of thread best to look for a CPU with a last 8 core / 16 thread. Do you need more speed per thread or more thread?

We will need both as we run virtual machines that also run java applications that require high cpu speeds

In this user case I would go for the Ryzen™ 9 5900X (8 cores / 16 threads) or Ryzen™ 9 5950X (16 cores, 32 threads).  It be good to give each of the VM it own set of Cores / threads, like if you have 4 VM have 16 threads you could give them 3 to 4 threads each but you would need a last one for the host. So more threads are better if you running many VM. If you need more them it may be best to wait to see what the new Threadripper come up with or look at AMD or Intel server CPUs or last gen Threadripper.

I have been looking at getting a server to run all our vms and add our client vms on to there as well

would you recommend this set up (not sure what motherboard it is running but all passes compatability)

I would then move the high usage java applications to our development set up
