Earlier this year I bought some old parts in hopes of building a PC to game on until tax season.

Maybe half way through last month. A whirring sound started coming from my psu. Its a antec power Quattro 850w. I bought a EVGA 750w and threw that in there today.

While the antec psu was dusty, it wasn't super bad as if it had been on for years and neglected. I guess I'm just wondering (I'm a novice if anything when It comes to building) if there is anything that can be done to save these things, or even if it's worth it too ?

It sounds like a serpentine belt in a car when you first cut it On.

So it's a very high pitched noise?

I think it's either the fan (mechanical noise) or some coil whine. Both wouldn't be a big issue, but depending on how loud, can be annoying.

You can check which one it is by temporarily blocking the fan and and listen if the sound is still there.

EDIT: of course not while it's running at full load.
