KVM Assistance

mike13531

Hey guys,

I’m seeking some advice on what kind of KVM to look for...  I have two systems and one monitor:

-PC, with DisplayPort DVI and HDMI

-Laptop, only HDMI, additionally this work laptop does not permit any software downloads.

-AW3420, 1440p ultrawide 120 hz g sync

I love gaming and I don’t want to leave performance on the table.  Is there a good KVM you guys would recommend for my setup?

Thank you in advance

i doubt you'll find an actual KVM that can switch 1440p 120hz signals. And if you do it will be very expensive.

Does the monitor have dual inputs? If so, use one for the laptop and one for the PC, and then use a billy basic KVM or USB switch to swap the USB peripherals between the machines.

I would just get a standard USB KVM to handle your keyboard and mouse. For switching the display between your laptop and your desktop, just plug your desktop via DP and laptop via HDMI and switch between the two directly form the monitor.

Something like this would be fine: https://www.amazon.ca/UGREEN-Computers-Peripheral-Switcher-One-Button/dp/B01N6GD9JO/ref=sr_1_7?dchild=1&gclid=Cj0KCQiAzZL-BRDnARIsAPCJs71G2p0AUV-96VF1rLTP2uVkiDUHJGgdby9mHyRmBMDNPVXXwO2x8QQaAqRtEALw_wcB&hvadid=208449833974&hvdev=c&hvlocphy=9001570&hvnetw=g&hvqmt=e&hvrand=17907459337256177367&hvtargid=kwd-298636814378&hydadcr=4517_9156524&keywords=usb+kvm&qid=1606780611&smid=AKXVBT49GGF3B&sr=8-7&tag=googcana-20.

That's what I'm doing with my Samsung CJ50, just letting the monitor handle the different display inputs from my laptop and desktop, while a VGA KVM handles my keyboard and mouse. Not a one button solution, but hey, it's works and it's cheaper than a proper solution would cost, if you could even find one.

Is cheaper to buy a second screen than it's to buy a proper KVM.

But why buy another monitor if your current one already supports the two inputs you need?

DP for desktop

HDMI for laptop

I think this is the solution!   Thank you very much.

I am totally happy manually switching displays so long as I can use one set of mouse and keyboard!  I am curious now, why would anyone use the other KVM?  It’s so easy to switch inputs...
