Brand New HDD Errors

Ok, 

 

I have no clue what to do here.  I have an SSD installed and working properly that is running my OS and a few programs I use often.  I plug in my HDD and go to initialize and everything is fine, I name it, then I run into some error about the i/o.  I shut down the computer and make sure my connections are good.  I come back, I cannot initialize because of a cyclic redundancy check error.  Now what do I do?

I would start from scratch. I would go to snapfiles, install Todo Backup, and completely wipe the HDD. After that, I would create a backup from the SSD, so it will have the exact same files.

Does it look damaged? It might be defective.

Just wait and let it do a check and then see if u can initialize...

Cyclic redundancy check error could mean you have an unreadable block on the drive. Use the error checking tool from within Windows and tick the option "Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors". If there is a bad block, Windows will attempt to recover and move the data from it to another section and flag the bad blocks so they're no longer used. 

If this HDD still has a warranty, and you find it does have bad blocks/sectors, it may be time for an RMA.
