So, my friend is looking for an external hard drive to use to backup his files, but he has both a windows pc as well as a mac. I read that windows and mac use different file systems which means that drives need to be formatted to the appropriate file system (unless the internet is wrong). But I am wondering if there are any external drives that can be used both by windows and mac simultaneously? And if so which one is the best?

Are there no drives (or software that comes with it) that automatically allow compatibility with osx and windows?
