Thoughts about potential CPU bottleneck?

Hello all!

 

I recently got into VR using my old gaming rig running a GTX 980. It works fine for titles like Beat Saber etc but I want to play Half Life: Alyx in the future and will for sure need to upgrade my GPU for that. I'm thinking something like a 2070/2080 or the eventual 3060. However, I would like your guys' thoughts on if my CPU would bottleneck a newer graphics card? I am running an old i7 4790K, slightly overclocked. Any ideas would be very much appreciated.

Oh yeah you will probably want something like a r5 3600 at minimum

No? Half life alyx runs totally fine on a 980. Just use the low settings which barely look different from the high ones. The game is super optimized and runs really well.
