I prefer you wait, as nvidia is about to absolutely reck the budget gpu area, if the rumors are correct, you can get a RTX 3060 or Maybe A 3050Ti but its just a rumor, but hey! its worth the wait!

Well if you had to buy right now, I would go AMD. Kinda wish you didn't build a 6 core pc.

What's wrong with that. I have yet to see a game where 8 cores or more bring a significant advantage.

If someone did not use reason to reach their conclusion in the first place, you cannot use reason to convince them otherwise.

I didn't say anything is wrong with it, and I am willing to bet that if OP was diligent with his money he could have build an 8 core at the end of 2020 for the same price or a little more. Why settle for less?

I'd take a 3600 over a 2700X all the time.

I'd take a 5600X over a 3700X all the time.

At the same price point there will always be the option for a current gen 6-core or a last gen 8-core. And I'd always take the 6 core with better single threaded performance. But for the price of the 3600 it's impossible to buy a 8-core NEW from the same gen and for roughly the same price. Of course i'd take a 8-core over a 6-core for the same price if they were to be from the same gen. But that's not likely the case.

Ayy, just help the OP out. I am not going to get into specifics with you here, make your own thread and don't hijack his. But as usual people are here to defend their purchase.

They are just starting to.  6 cores is fine now, Games in 2 years?  It is about same as 4 cores a little while back.  All games then only needed 4, but people are still using 2017 systems now, when 6 cores would help.  It does make a difference now, it just only shows in feel of smoothness rather then fps.  It will start to show as games are optimized for higher core counts.

I would second the wait if you can advice.  Both gpu companies should have mid and low end cards coming out, and that should lower prices of current as well.  Better to upgrade after new stuff comes out rather then before.  A year ago I was using 8 core with 1050 non-ti, until I found sale for 5700xt below msrp, if you can wait while looking for a while you can jump on a good deal when it appears.

Defending my purchase? I actually regret buying a 3700X because until now i never needed the extra 2 cores and i'll be switching to a 5600X because of my reasons above. Not trying to hijack anything or offend you in any way, just making a point that the 3600 was by no means a wrong decision by OP.

Back on topic: I'd strongly suggest waiting until at least the 3060Ti is out. I'd guess it will be sold for ~350$ and it will be much better than anything you can get right now. If you need something now, go for a used GPU in your budget. You can get 1080Ti's or 2070 Super's for under 300$ no problem.

If someone did not use reason to reach their conclusion in the first place, you cannot use reason to convince them otherwise.
