Resetting CMOS

Hey guys, some mainboards have a button for resetting CMOS on the rear IO panel and I was wondering if that does the same thing as shorting the two pins on the mainboard or removing the battery with the PSU plugged off. And since we are at it, does resetting to factory defaults via the BIOS/UEFI itself do the same thing?
