Hi all,

Just finished putting together a new machine, and was looking to do what I typically do, and use the Samsung data migration tool to image the new NVME drive with the old SATA SSD Image.

The build includes the following:

Ryzen 3800XT

ASRock B550 Taichi Motherboard

I've done the following:

  • Confirmed the Bios Found the Drive
  • Updated the BIOS to the latest version (1.3 in this case)
  • Confirmed Windows is able to format and read and write to the drive
  • Benchmark the drive using Samsung Magician App.

What's wrong is:

  • When trying to install the drivers the application complains "there is no NVME drive installed."
  • I'm guessing since the drivers aren't installed, the data migration software fails "for an Unknown issue"

What I'm trying to achieve:

  • Make the NVME Drive the boot drive and not reinstall a buttload of engineering software.

Thanks all for your attention!

Is the new drive the same size or larger than the SSD you're migrating from? If so then give Clonezilla a spin! Use Etcher to burn the ISO to a thumb drive, boot it up, and you can just do a bit for bit clone of the SSD to the NVME then expand the partition once it's copied. If the NVME is smaller than the SSD you'll need to shrink the partition on the SSD to the same or smaller size than the NVME then use Clonezilla to copy just the partition over then run *I think* Windows Boot Repair to write the boot stuff to the NVME so it'll boot or use a different boot manager like GRUB2.
