Long time Mac user/developer needing help with custom build

To be honest, I am being forced to switch to a *nix build for development. The primary reason is that Docker (& Docker-Sync) have become a huge negative impact on MacOS.

The one question I keep asking myself... should I do a bare-metal virtualisation so I can run multiple OSs? Keep my 4 server environments as separate VMs and then my actual development environment as a 5th. But would this actually be a strong enough of a system?

Anyone's input is much appreciated. I am ready to push the buy button (obviously hoping first for the Ryzen 5900x)
