I recently built a new pc that featured a 3700x which is cooled by a ROG Strix LC 240 AIO. I was running into problems with the temperatures of CPU with idling reaching anywhere of 55C. I believe I have found the solution but I would like some assistance before I follow through.

After just a quick examination of the AIO hook up I noticed that one of the support screws that I had to screw into the motherboard isn't totally flush like the 3 other screws. If my observation is correct then that would be the AIO isn't totally flush with the CPU which I believe would negatively affect the temps.

But my question came when I though could this even be an issue, and if I were to take off the AIO and secure the screw to be flush then put the AIO back in place. Would I need to replace the thermal paste, is my motherboard defective by not taking the screw fully, or am I overreacting and my AIO is fine.

If it is any use I have an ASRock B550 Steel Legend Board

As always any help is much appreciated

i would take it off and try to secure the screw, i don't see the mobo being the issue though, so i wouldn't worry about the mobo. my 3700x idles around 48-55c with an aio, what are your temps under load? and it would be best to replace the thermal paste, but if you are careful not to touch it, or get any dust in it, i think you will be okay. i would recommend ordering some more thermal paste and redoing when you can though.

edit: make sure nothing is obstructing the screw before you try and tighten it all the way. best to avoid breaking anything that could be in the way.
