Last night when I was copying files to my nas I got an error on my computer saying that my network connected storage had lost connection so this morning I checked and my nas was off and wouldn't turn back on. Now I took the hard drive out and am trying to move the files to my computer but it will not show up in my file explorer... help :'(

What raid level did you use on the NAS, if it's raid 0, 5, 6 our anything else than 1 you're really in trouble. If you did use raid 1 than maybe linux will be able to read the disk, i'm not sure but i think it's formatted using ext3... Good luck

I only had one hard drive in it.

I think you 2 options RMA the NAS unit and wait for the replacement unit the read your hard drive, it may work if you don't format the drive during setup. Option 1 try too use a linux OS to read the drive because i'm pretty sure it's formatted using ext3

Well the problem could be just the power brick because the drive is powered on and being detected in my bios. I'm currently installing linux on my desktop (on linux on my netboot atm) and am going to see if it can be read...I really don't want to lose all those movies and documents.

@RavenXE So I'm in Ubuntu 13.10 right now and when I typed lsblk it showed my 1.8TB hdd and it's 3 partitions, I want to copy the data from it to my 64gb usb stick within ubuntu, what steps do i need to follow to make this happen?

edit* When I tried to mount the partitions it said unknown file system type 'linux_raid_member'

Damn i don't have clue from this point.... Have you tried mounting all the partitions or just one ?

Ya it says they are all raid and threw up flags in ssm, but I somehow finagled it and got the files, I honestly forget what I did but now the hard drive will be living in my pc untill the nas gets replaced.
