Have everything for my PC except CPU and GPU, as I've been waiting for new releases, but not sure if my choice is quite right now.
I'd been planning to get a 3070 and new ryzen chip (5800x), but seeing the price increase of the 5800x over the 3700x or 3800x, I'm not sure whether to stick with this plan or go for a 3700x/3800x and spend the difference in price on a 3080 instead. Both CPUs will handle any of my workstation needs fine, and I don't do much GPU accelerated work, so really the question is what's worth the money for better performance gaming, (1440p, 165Hz monitor), the 5800x or a 3080?

I live in the us and £1500 equals just under 2000 dollars for me. this totals $1080 and with $1000 left you could probably fit in a 3080 ($700) and a 3800x (im assuming its around $300). 3800x is still a great cpu. and with a 3080 you could easily get 1440p 165hz and it should be able to handle 4k gaming as well, But 4k high refresh rate displays are expensive so thats up to you wether you stay with 1440p or go to 4k.
