Hey, i installed a SATA M.2 drive a few months back and everything seemed fine, but about a month ago my HDD suddenly didnt show up in my files, i fiddled around in my case and no wires seemed loose or anything and i was using different sata lanes. When i turned my pc on, the HDD then appeared again. This has just happened to me again, my HDD was not in my files just until i was half way through writing this and it seemed to have come back... Is there something dodgy with my HDD or would is it more likely to be a dodgy cable? My HDD doesnt show any other signs of messing up but im scared its coming to the end of its life as ive had it for a good few years now. Would you recommend i fork out for a new HDD or am i just being stoopid?

Did you make any changes yourself?  Did the point where it suddenly started happening coincide with a windows update?

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

Life is like a bowl of chocolates: there are all these little crinkly paper cups everywhere.

Is your HDD feels like really 'slow' lately? Loading times on games are crappy and something unusual happened? Check your SMART status like from HWInfo or similar. If it's showing warnings (example on my case), you might have to replace it. And don't really try to fix it yourself if there's important data inside, just really, store it and change the drive.

But in your case, it might be a dodgy cable because it only just *poof* and still appears.

Humor me, as you should do.
