So, I have an issue with my Xbox One controller.

I can't seem to pair it via bluetooth on my computer, even though I was able to pair my wireless keyboard and mouse with no issues.

I have to use the charging/usb cable to play with the controller, and it works fine in game.

However, I have a peculiar and frustrating issue, which means everytime a game will load into a new level, or a location, basically anything that requires the game to load something, it disconnects and I have to unplug the cable then plug it back in.

The Xbox button logo will the light up, and it will work again.

It's fine if I pause the game and use menus, or if I have to engage with an item in game, or use a workbench or an upgrade path, or anything similar.

For example, in Fortnite it works fine at the menu screen where you select you skins etc... - but as soon as it loads me into the pre match lobby it disconnects.

I'll reconnect by the unplug-plug routine, then as the game proper starts and I'm on the battle bus it disconnects again and I have to unplug it and plug it back in to regain control.

It'll then be fine until I die, at which point I'll return to the menu screen and it'll be disconnected again.

After a while it just gets annoying, and I'm sure sure the unplugging and plugging in routine will loosen the snug fit the usb currently has with connection port - eventually making it less likely to work.

I'd appreciate any advice, guys, as I'm pretty fed up with it.

Thanks, in advance, for any help.

For the wireless: Iit's likely you have an early XBOX One controller. These don't have any bluetooth functionality. Only the later ones have.

As for the disconnecting: Maybe you have to switch to controller in the control options so the game will stay with the controls for your controller and not switch to keyboard+mouse everytime a menu pops up. I'm not playing fortnite myself, so i can't really help your further on this.

If someone did not use reason to reach their conclusion in the first place, you cannot use reason to convince them otherwise.

I just used Fortnite as example, but it happens in every game, be it No Man's Sky, Destiny 2, Left For Dead 2...and it's always the same result.

You could be right about the controller being an early one.

I got it from my brother as he has an Xbox One.

You are right about it switching back to mouse and keyboard each time; and me reconnecting it simply overrides the m&k.

I've tried everything in game, and it's not fixable.

That only leaves that settings in the actual computer, so Windows 10, doesn't it?

Thing is, it's the fact it keeps disconnecting after any loading screen that is so confusing.

If it just didn't work, or cut out randomly, that would be one thing - but it's very specific and predictable, as it only happens in the circumstances I explained.

You can update the controller's firmware using the XBOX App in the windows app-store. Maybe this will help.
