system specs are:

joshua h61 mobo

i5-2320 cpu

16gb ram

corsair cx 750 psu

i just tried to play saints row 4 today and it kept shutting off the system every time i tried to change the video settings, like all the power in the system went out and it restarted automatically. thought it was weird, so i tried playing nfs heat, a game that i could play before no problem. shut down on the loading screen. tried furmark, instant shutdown. decreased the settings in afterburner to about 50% of stock speeds and power on the gpu. could run furmark, closed it, tried again two more times and on the third time it shut down again. this leads me to thing its a psu issue, since when i turned down the gpu power, it was able to handle it for a bit. i just wanted to run this by someone more knowledgeable on the subject to make sure i had my ducks in a row? i already have an evga supernova 750w g5 psu on the way along with a used i7-3770 for giggles. hoping its not my gpu, but if it is, i'll just have to get my hands on a 3080!

GPU or PSU.  Something is triggering the protections on the PSU.  This can either be the PSU itself failing, or a voltage issue on the GPU that's out of spec and triggering it.

Can you test either a new PSU or GPU?

i dont have another of either currently. i have a new psu on the way to rule that out though.

assuming your temps aren't too high causing an overheating issue, it definitely sounds like psu.

it happens instantly when trying to run furmark, so i doubt its a temperature issue. i also have 3 intake and 3 exhaust fans on my case run on a thermaltake 6 fan controller in one of the optical drive bays.
