So I picked up a new gigabyte fully modular 750w power supply to replace my 6 year old corsair cx600m, havent touched the CPU (well now I have but I hadnt previously) and as soon as I loaded up a game (dead by daylight) it crashed twice and then the system just shut off. I noticed after that the cpu was idling in the high 70s and the second it had any work to do it would spike. Figured I would remount the cooler for lolz, redid thermal paste which was still good from when it was applied, and im having the same issue, anyone else ever seen something like that? Im going to try mounting the stock wraith cooler tomorrow to see what happens.

Specs:

Ryzen 7 2700x

Asus Prime X470 Pro

32GB 3200mhz Corsair memory

EVGA RTX 2070 Super XC Ultra

Gigabyte P750GM (Was Corsair CX600M before issue)

*Note I sat in bios to watch idle temps for about 5 minutes and they hovered around high 60s

Yeah, that's pretty hot. probably about 20c too hot at idle.

In the 50s, maybe touch 60c idle in the bios is where mines usually at.

In windows idle really depends on room temps, but really a concern.

What are the load temps?

What where the temps before you removed the cooler for no reason?

The room was warm but not as warm as it's been previously, I would say just about 24C at the most. I was thinking it might be that but I figured even still 70-80 is too hot.

Right now I can't really get any load temps because the second I do anything that requires it to do any work, it will be good for about a minute as I watch things creep up and spike higher and higher and then the whole system shuts off. Figured it was probably spiking high enough that it was just too hot so it shut itself off.

Before it was a little toasty but mid-low 80s.

I also noticed I left out what cooler I have, its an NZXT Kraken M22

Double check the pump for sure.

System max throttle is 90c.

System shut down is 105c.

If the stock cooler does better, then you'll know the M22 may not be pumping.

Although I feel a single 120 rad is boarder line not enough.

The stock cooler is good for 140w chips.

As you do I found out a few months after purchasing the M22 that it already isn't amazing but it does look cool and has been good enough, with the spikes I saw while it was on I wouldn't be surprised if it hit 105 even if it was just for a split second.

I thought it would be good enough but if it isn't I've been wanting to get a better one for a while anyway so it would hopefully be a little cooler and it would make the front of the case look nicer than a rad with another fan below it. Will have to see how the stock cooler does and if it works I suppose it will be troubleshooting/replacement time.

Ok. I brought home a power supply tester from work and that is all good. Stuck on the wraith and everything was instantly quieter and better performing than I had ever seen so clearly the m22 has a problem. Went by microcenter and grabbed an H100i platinum in white and its pretty, so much more quiet than ive ever heard my computer, and everything works gr8, guess maybe my old power supply wasnt enough for the cpu to draw its full power? Or maybe the cooler just decided to die right at that awkward time. Oh well, thanks for the help guys
