Help with networking!!

Hi, so whenever I connect to my home network my computer about half the time can’t connect, then the other half is it connecting then it dropping completely. When I try to connect to another network like my phones hotspot it works perfectly fine without issue, I’ve tried everything from resetting both my network setting and my router, to doing a bunch of cams promps. Please help

First, make sure that you have current backups before you go to changing things in the settings.

 

Second, make sure that your drivers are up-to-date.  Drivers for things like your network card (if you have one), your onboard network stuff, anything network related.  Includes bluetooth if you have it.

 

You need a place to start for a beginning, so unplug your network router and let it sit for a couple of minutes.  Hopefully this will reset everything back to the beginning so you have a place to start.

 

Go ahead and restart your router and then after it is good to go, reset everything in Windows back to the beginning and once that is done, restart your machine.

 

Before changing anything on the router, double check the windows settings and make sure they are good to go.

 

Are you using a cable to connect your machine to the router or are you using wireless?

 

Cable should be more or less straight forward meaning the only thing for you to do would be to plug in the cable from the machine to the router and they should do the rest.  Nothing to mess with when using the cable.

 

If using wireless/wifi, then that is most likely where your problem is located.  Make sure your wireless/wifi drivers are good to go.  If it is, then you should be able to "find" your network under the network settings tab in windows.

 

Click on the network settings tab and be sure to enter the passcode for your network.  Once that is done, give it a minute to set things up and then you should be good to go.
