Hot i5 9600k Core

Go to solution Solved by Asa1Awesome,

I did repaste originally when I had the issue, I have had it since I built the PC back in May, so I don't know about RMA. And HWinfo64 does appear to show them all at similar temps, so thank you @SpookyCitrus

I bought an i5 9600k back in May and have been living with a hot core ever since. I have no idea how to affect the hot core directly to disable it at this point. I have an ASRock Z390 Pro4 motherboard. The screenshot of Open Hardware Moniter is at idle a few minutes after reboot.

Might just be a bad temperature reading.

Check it with HWinfo64 instead and see if the reading is different.

If you get the same results with HWInfo64, you might have bad thermal paste application.

Re-paste the CPU and see if it helps.

that's too high of a temperature difference to be of fault of thermal paste spread on top of IHS

it's either bad solder between IHS and the Die, or bad sensor

either way, RMA the chip

-sigh- feeling like I'm being too negative lately
