So, I am having a big problem with configuring a raid card I got from eBay for a good deal, it is an Adaptec ASR-8405-4i and I cant get it to get past "Booting the Controller Kernel....." screen. For background, I have an Asus Prime x470 Prime Pro with a Ryzen 7 3700X with all other io options disconnected. When it does get past controller kernel boot, it just has a fatal error saying "Controller monitor failed. Controller not started."

I have a few SAS SSD's (12gb/s and 6gb/s, but not connected at the same time) but the Controller doesn't even start.

I would either like advice how to get this card working or a well known alternative for SAS 12gb/s that works on consumer hardware. Please help, thank you!

Do you have any other system to try the card in? Could be DOA or a corrupted firmware, etc.

I've always stayed with LSI (or their successor cards - now Broadcom I think?) RAID Cards - particularly used server cards, since they're usually bullet proof.

You can definitely get LSI cards that are 12 Gbit/s SAS. Usually they have decent consumer support, but sometimes it depends on what firmware they run.

For Sale: Meraki Bundle

iPhone Xr 128 GB Product Red - HP Spectre x360 13" (i5 - 8 GB RAM - 256 GB SSD) - HP ZBook 15v G5 15" (i7-8850H - 16 GB RAM - 512 GB SSD - NVIDIA Quadro P600)

I also have an intel Core i5-4670 based machine that I use as my server, but it did the same in that system, so it could possibly be corrupted firmware?

I got the card for only $30, so it is a possibility that it had some major issues. do you have any raid cards that you could recommend? I would prefer to keep things rather cheap, but as long as it works, price is not a real problem as long as it's not like $600 usd, I'm hoping for something under $300 or $250 USD pereferably.

However if its an easy fix, that would be ideal, thank you!
